It started as an ordinary Friday family pizza night. By Sunday, I was having brain surgery. Somewhere in between, I missed a few chapters of my own life.
What followed has been surprising, sometimes frightening, frequently funny, and overflowing with people whose love changed how I see the world. This is the story of an unexpected detour—and what I’m discovering along the way.

It started with an ordinary Friday family pizza night.
Then everything changed.
An ambulance. An ICU. Nearly two days of memories missing. And the astonishing realization that I needed emergency brain surgery—while awake.
I wouldn’t have believed this someone else had told it to me.
But the most remarkable parts weren’t confined to the operating room. They involved the extraordinary people who appeared when we needed them, a series of circumstances that seem almost impossible, and the overwhelming love surrounding our family.
What began as a medical emergency has become a much bigger story about life, faith, gratitude, and the things that matter most.
And this is only the beginning of what I hope to share.
